Fire Stations

Woodacre - Headquarters

Marin County Fire Department Headquarters is located in the West Marin community of Woodacre.  The busy headquarters station is home to department administrative staff, the Emergency Command Center, and the vehicle maintenance facility.

Areas served: Woodacre, Nicasio, Lucas Valley, Forest Knolls, Lagunitas, and the San Geronimo Valley. Mutual Aid is provided to the community of Fairfax.

Throckmorton Ridge

The Throckmorton Ridge Fire Station is located on the slopes of Mount Tamalpais. The station pictured was demolished July 2005, and will be rebuilt in 2006. Firefighters currently live and work out of trailers on site.

This station is situated in a crucial location to respond to wildland fires on the southern and west Marin coast, Mt. Tamalpais, and in the urban-interface areas above Mill Valley.  Protecting the community of Muir Beach, the Throckmorton Ridge fire station also responds to Muir Woods National Monument, Mt. Tamalpais State Park, and the Marin Municipal Watershed.

Areas served: The unincorporated areas surrounding Mill Valley, Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais State Park, and Muir Beach.

Marin City

The Marin City Fire Station is the department's new addition located within the County of Marin Public Safety Building.  Marin City is located north of the town of Sausalito and has the highest number of responses annually. The jurisdiction is comprised of affordable housing, house boats, commercial waterfront, and commercial property.

Areas served: Marin City. Mutual Aid is provided to the town of Sausalito.

Point Reyes

Protecting over 100 square miles of parkland, ranchland and rural communities, the units of Point Reyes Station have been providing fire, medical, and rescue emergency services to citizens and visitors in West Marin since the first station was built in the late 1950’s. Located near downtown Point Reyes Station the fire station was rebuilt in 1984. The building also contains the Marin County Sheriff’s Office sub-station, a HAM radio disaster communication command center, and a widely used community meeting room. Starting in 1976, in Point Reyes, the Marin County Fire Department started one of the first Paramedic Ambulances in Marin County.

Housed in the Fire Station are five units; a Structural Firefighting Engine, a Wildland Firefighting Engine, a Paramedic Rescue Ambulance, a utility pick-up truck and a Flood evacuation boat. This flood evacuation boat was funded through the Point Reyes Disaster Council, an organization made up of Point Reyes area citizens that have partnered with the Fire Department and other agencies to provide additional disaster response to major incidents in West Marin.

Units from Point Reyes Fire Station respond to emergencies in other jurisdictions, and have developed a close working relationship with these other agencies. These allied agencies include the Bolinas Fire Department, Inverness Fire Department, Stinson Beach Fire Department, and the Tomales Fire Department.  Additional partners include United States Park Service Rangers and Firefighters from the Point Reyes National Seashore and Golden Gate National Recreation Area; and State Park rangers in Tomales Bay State Park.

By partnering with the community and other agencies, Marin County Fire Department personnel at Point Reyes will continue to meet the unique needs of the communities in West Marin and for the over one million visitors per year to the area.

Areas served: Point Reyes Station, Marshall, Olema, and Inverness Park. Automatic-aid is provided to the Inverness Public Utility District.

Hicks Valley

Hicks Valley Fire Station is located in the rolling hills between Point Reyes and Petaluma. This station provides protection for numerous ranches and is dispatched into Sonoma County routinely as a mutual aid resource. Hicks Valley is unique for it protects the last three remaining one-room school houses in Marin County. The department's sewing shop is housed in this facility. Custom hose packs, straps, and softgoods are manufactured here by firefighters. This station also performs fire hose maintenance and repair.

Areas served: Hicks Valley, Chileno Valley, Nicasio Valley . Mutual Aid is provided to the community of Novato. Automatic aid is provided to the Wilmar Fire Department and the San Antonio Volunteer Fire Department .

Tomales

The Tomales Fire Station is located in the community of Tomales, protecting historic downtown Tomales, the Tomales Bay coastline, Pacific Ocean and ranches. Due to its remote location, the Tomales fire station houses the first fire engine in Marin County staffed with a paramedic and lifesaving Advanced Life Support equipment.  Tomales is the only Marin County Station to utilize volunteers to supplement the permanent staff.

Areas served: Tomales, Dillon Beach, Marshal and Chileno Valley. Mutual Aid is provided to the communities of Bodega Bay, Two Rock, Valley Ford and the US Coast Guard Base in Two Rock.
